Pinterest has been a big deal in marketing and sharing images, but of course with so many copyright issues, it seems such bad timing for Picnik to be going out of business. Picnik was my favorite site for photo editing, adding captions, creating great effects and borders/frames.
Here are some of my Picnik alterations:
Unfortunately Picnik is closing as of April 20th (the day before my birthday – that hardly seems fair). So, now what? Picnik was the perfect photo site because it was FREE, and had some great, cool effects. Well, some smart user decided that everyone would need a new place to go and decided to create PicMonkey.
As far as I can tell from the couple of times I’ve used it – mostly goofing around – it’s just as good and *gasp* may even be slightly better. Shhhh… don’t tell anyone I said that.
It seems like it has even better editing effects, which gives me more options. Most everything is free too. There are a few special effects that require an upgrade to the premium package (which I also had with Picnik) but it’s free for the first 30 days & I didn’t have to enter my credit card info to try it out. The one thing that it still seems to lack is a collage feature, but the home page says that that’s coming soon.
So I guess I can stop mourning the loss of picnik finally. Freak out mode is over. Hello PicMonkey. Your timing couldn’t be better!

As a Barrie Home Stager I know the importance of having great pictures! Like many of you, I also relied on picnik to create before and after collages, watermark my photos and basic editing. Im so thrilled that you shared this new photo editing site, Very user friendly and yes, looking forward to their collage tool (coming soon) Thanks again for sharing!

Hi Simone! It’s like the makers of PicMonkey heard my cries of frustration. While I have used Picassa in the past, it is not nearly the tool that Picnik was. I’m so grateful, like you, to have a new photo site to work with!
