Birgit Anich of Birgit Anich Staging & Interiors in Norwalk, CT, one of our Advanced Marketing & Design Graduates, shows that home staging today is more than boring & neutral, instead lifestyle image targeting potential buyers creates a level of sophistication and allure. Compelling vignettes create a story that pulls buyers into the home, making more emotional, compelling and memorable. Donna Dazzo and I have met a few times. I’m always interested in her perspective because she is so refined and so business oriented. Most of the home stagers that I meet are serious creative types that leave a lot of the business to someone else, or simply fly by the seat of their pants. Reading her bio, I’ve learned why.
Home stagers seem to come from all walks of life and a variety of backgrounds. It’s the life lessons that they picked up along the way that seem to make up a huge part of whether or not they will be successful.
It’s easy to see that SAR Instructor Karen Otto has an eye for space, vignettes and rustic charm. Showing off her new ability to photograph the art in her craft, Karen uses her personal treasures to evoke emotion in her personal stage – a trick taught by HGTV’s Matthew Finlason in his groundbreaking Advanced Staging Course.

Matthew Finlason, well known from HGTV’s hit show, The Stagers, was on Selling LA this past week (Episode 203, The Challenge of Making Decisions). For those of us who love Matthew, which is pretty much everyone he meets or has seen his passion and flair for both design and drama, this was another moment to soak in his high flying energy.
As always, his staging work was impeccable and his time on the show left us wanting to see more of him – even though that’s not what this show is about. (Can we please get another season of him on The Stagers?… This guy needs to be back on TV. I think it should happen, could someone get on that?)
In the end, Matthew’s staging turned a dated, worn out home – needing in excess of $500,000 in work into a showpiece that sold in days – with multiple offer and closing at $5000 more than the $2.5M list price. Well done…
